A new adventure

Sunday baasje went outside with me. I thought we were going to the park so I was surprised when he stopped at the car, opened the door and told me to jump in. Pfff, forget it!! I didn’t move a bit. Eventually, he half lifted, half pushed me in.

So there I was, sitting in the back of a car again…. Vrouwtje came as well and off we were. I kept whining because I still don’t like it too much. I calmed down a little bit after a while but I was still somewhat nervous.

It didn’t take too long and we stopped at a small lake. I forgot everything about car driving because there was so much new to discover!!

All those different smells, the grass, the sand, the water! How awesome!!

At first I just walked along the sand, sniffed out everything. But the water was tempting so I walked into it a little bit. Vrouwtje was laughing, baasje said something like I shouldn’t go in further or I will need to explain to Grandma, why we can’t come over anymore for coffee. Mhhhh… I don’t drink coffee!!

Anyways, I walked in the sand again but couldn’t resist temptation and walked into the water again, even a little bit further than the first time. Baasje called me back and put me on my line again. But he promised that next time, I can go swimming, if I want because then we’ll take a towel with us.

Then it was back to the car…

We drove for quite a while and finally arrived at Grandma’s. I was so excited, I pulled hard on the line. Baasje nearly fell, oppsss….

Grandma has a garden, of course I had to discover it. I even peed there. I mean, I was outside so I didn’t think I would need to let them know, I needed to go. So they got the water hose and washed my pee away.

Then I got a toy Frisbee!! I played with it in the garden for a long time. Then I went to baasje with it and we played pulling. But I think one of us pulled too hard because it broke. Oh well, now I had a big string to chew on and that is never wrong. ;)

After a while we drove back home. Once there, vrouwtjes and baasje gave me treats but I didn’t even care for my favorites. I was so exhausted and tired, that I slept for 3 hours in a row! I’m still a puppy and I sleep a lot but now I hadn’t been sleeping for a few hours so I really needed to catch up.

It was an exciting day full of adventures for this puppy!!

Look, a new toy!!

Oppps, already broken :(

Ouch, that hurts!

Friday I had to wait very long for baasje and vrouwtje to come home. They had gone right after work to pick up their car. Needless to say that I was very, very happy when they were finally home! I was even happier when vrouwtje took me outside right away. What a relief!!

Saturday they kept talking about taking me on a little trip in a car and that they hoped I’d like it since it’s been a few months, since the last time. Well, I didn’t really care much because I was in a little bit of pain.

Baasje and vrouwtje are not really sure what I have. I’m a bit of a chaos dog and always kinda hurt my legs when playing. But this time my leg seemed to have fallen asleep when I was sleeping. I had it before a few times but then we walked a little and it went away.

Well, this time I woke up and was letting out a cry because it hurt so much. It scared vrouwtje a lot and she came sitting next to me immediately to massage my leg. It helped a little but I still couldn’t walk properly. We went outside but I wasn’t allowed to play. Later I was able again to run around the apartment like a nutcase but I think baasje and vrouwtje weren’t too happy to see me jumping. Maybe they were right because later that evening I again had problems.

Sunday morning I limped into the bedroom and had difficulties getting in the bed. Vrouwtje luckily helped me so I could still cuddle up. Later baasje massaged my leg for a very long time. That was so nice, I actually fell asleep.

At the moment it's going better but baasje will still go to the vet with me tomorrow to have it check out.

A big trip

The first times I was in a car were kinda scary. I kept hiding between vrouwtjes legs and every time baasje drove around a corner, I would walk in a circle and go back to hiding. That wasn’t as easy as it might sound like. I was little but there isn’t much space in the front where vrouwtjes legs normally are.

We went to the parents of baasje. They have a nice new house… and I left my mark there almost immediately. Opppssss. I don’t think the man of the house (lets call him Grandpa :D) was very happy about it but once again, I didn’t mean to do it.

Then when I was just two weeks with my owners, we went on a very long trip to Germany. Baasje had made a nice space for me in the trunk of the car. I could see them in the front but that was way too far for me. I made a lot of noise and eventually, baasje stopped and they put me on the back seats. I had also gotten a little pill to calm me because I was so scared the first time. That helped and I was good throughout the journey.

We stopped often so that I can do my business. It wasn’t always that easy because I didn’t know the places and there were lots of noises from many cars. Vrouwtje then walked with me behind the human toilets, it was quieter there, which was much better.

Then we arrived where vrouwtje grew up. I met her parents – my Grandma and Grandpa.
I also met their dogs Bommel and Brutus. I liked Bommel right away and we had lots of fun throughout the weekend. But Brutus was another story… He is a big Rottweiler and didn’t do anything to me. I think he was just curious and wanted to get to know me. But I was so scared of him, that I tried biting him. I think that was wrong because it made him a little angry. Grandpa then took him behind a fence.
Baasje and vrouwtje hope, that next time we go there, I will not be afraid of Brutus anymore so that we can play with the three of us. I sure hope so too!!

The rest of the weekend was exciting too. There was a big family party at the restaurants of vrouwtjes parents. I had to stay outside in the back of the restaurant. I had lots of place to run around there but it still wasn’t my idea of having a good time! Sometimes I could hear baasje and vrouwtje talking in the kitchen. Then I barked as hard and loud as I could. I mean, if they are there, they can just as well come to me! I didn’t really care that they told me they are helping. I didn’t want to be alone!

But now and then they came, and a lot of other people as well. That was great, I met so many new faces!! Later I was aloud to come inside because I had gotten chilly and I had just been very ill. Wow, there were even more people inside!!! I had a blast.
But we didn’t stay too long. Baasje and vrouwtje thought the loud music wasn’t so good for me so we went back to Grandparents home. Believe me, I slept good that night!!

When we were back at our own home in Holland, I was so happy to see familiar things again, I ran through the apartment like a nut case! Seeing the world is great but there is no place like home!

Shower Fun

I was never afraid of having to take a shower. I admit, the first time I didn’t like getting water over my head. But for the rest I was a good puppy and stood still while my owners washed me.

I even got my very own towel! It’s big and blue and when I get out of the bathtub, vrouwtje rubs me dry with it.

Then once the bathroom door gets opened again, I run into the living room and lay on the couch. This is very funny when baasje doesn’t see that the blanket is wet and is sitting down right where I was laying.

Often when I have to take a shower I walk circles under the it, so that I get wet everywhere. That way I help baasje and vrouwtje.

But even more fun then taking a shower myself is when baasje or vrouwtje are taking one! As soon as I hear the shower being turned on, I run into the bathroom and sit down right next to the bathtub. There I wait impatiently for them to turn the shower hose in my direction, so that I can drink out of it.

I’m not sure what it is, that I like so much about it. Maybe it’s because the water is warm or maybe because the shower is massaging my tongue. All I know is that it rocks and I can’t get enough of it! Normally my whole face gets wet but I don’t mind at all.

Most times I come back three or four times to drink more. Sometimes my owners don’t see my right away because they are washing their hair and have their eyes closed. When they then open them, they get a fright when they suddenly see me sitting there. Haha, how cool is that?! ;)

Stinky puppy

I used to fart a lot. Or better said, I used to pass a lot of wind.

May I continue now?

Now, just so we understand each other right – I didn’t do it on purpose! It just happened. Baasje and vrouwtje complained a lot about the smell, always ran to open the windows and spray around with room spray. If you ask me – a little over the top… The smell never bothered me. I was always able to just keep doing whatever I had been doing (sleeping, playing, being lazy).

Ok, there were two or three times, where I didn’t keep sleeping. Like this one time, when I was peacefully sleeping, when all of a sudden I heard this loud noise coming from where my tail is. It scared me so much, I started barking at it but there was nothing to see.

(Later I heard baasje tell vrouwtje, that I farted so loud, I scared myself out of my sleep and barked at my own butt….)

A few weeks ago my owners switched my food to a different brand. Now I don’t pass so much wind anymore, only if I really, really, really need to go!

Life is exciting

Life really is exciting, there is always something new to discover!

First time I went to the park with baasje and vrouwtje, it was overwhelming. There were many different smells, I had to check them all out! And there were little white flowers!! I used to pull them out but they really do not taste good so I immediately spit them out again. Baasje and Vrouwtje found that very funny.

Sticks – now those are cool! Did you know there are whole trees with big sticks on them? I sometimes try getting them down but most times, that doesn’t work. So I just look for some on the ground. Obviously, I pick the biggest ones. Now that seemed to be a very funny picture when I was still little…

Leaves are cool too. When there’s wind, they fly! And I catch them!
I especially enjoy the times, when there is strong wind. Then I can chase the leaves across the whole field and there are always new ones passing by. Believe me, after a while I’m so exhausted, I crash on the floor and sleep, as soon as we’re back home.

Does anyone else find flies and mosquitoes as annoying as I do? They keep flying around and bother me. So I need to chase after them! I managed to catch a few but most of them got away. Not because I’m not good enough but those damn things just fly to where I can’t get. But do not think I let them just do that! Oh no, I growl until they finally disappear! Until the next one bugs me again….

I cannot forget to mention socks. Now, socks are great, especially when I pull on one end and one of my humans on the other. Ok, by now I get that they don’t always do that to play but because they actually want me to let go of the sock. I heard them complaining that they can’t find their socks anymore or that all of them had holes in them because of me. So to keep them happy, I try not to steal their socks too often. It’s still fun, though.

Come cuddle!

I’m often too excited to relax and cuddle. That mostly just happens, when I’m really tired. But I too have moments, when I really, really wanna cuddle. Then I walk into the bedroom and lay on the bed. Now, one would think that’s enough of a hint for baasje and vrouwtje to know, that they are supposed to come as well. But no, they need more. So if I have to wait too long, I call them by barking shortly. Often I then hear them laughing in the living room. I can’t shake the feeling, that they know darn well, where I am and what I want, yet sometimes they still don’t come. Can you believe this!?!? Well, on those occasions I walk back into the living room, give them a short look and let myself (with enough noise!) drop onto the floor.

But there are the times, when they listen to me and come to cuddle. Yipppieeeee!!!
I wonder if they sometimes don’t come because they think I need to learn, that not everything can go the way I want it… Not really fair, but what’s a puppy supposed to do?

Making friends

When I was just a few months old, I was a little bit shy and even afraid of bigger animals. I was never afraid of humans and happily made friends with everyone. But bigger animals… I wasn’t too sure about that.

I met a lot of other dogs and really wanted to play with them. But it was very hard for me to decide, if I should join them. I was so little and they are much bigger. So often I would just sit there, watch them, making a move to join them but then just sit down again and keep watching.

If another dog came to me, I would put my tails between my legs and if possible, hide between or behind the legs of my owners.

Luckily, that has changed and I’m not afraid anymore. I have learned that most of the other dogs are cool and fun to play with. Some are not but vrouwtje always says that’s the same with humans. Now I know pretty fast, which dogs I get along with and which ones I might not.

I have made a lot of friends already and it’s always a lot of fun, when I meet them outside. Then we run around in the park, and sometimes even nearly run over our owners.
Only exception is when I’m outside playing catch with my ball. I don’t like my friends also running after it because if they catch it first, I don’t have it.
I’m always happy to share but not when it comes to my ball! That one is mine and when I play with it, I don’t want anyone else to disturb me.

The difference between weekdays and weekends

I don’t like weekdays. Then my owners leave early in the morning and I’m alone all day, until vrouwtje comes back home. So I get to go outside in the morning to do my business. No playing. That sucks and I’m always a little sad.
When they both leave the house in the morning, I bark after them because I want them to come back or at least take me with them. Vrouwtje always said that I call after them, that they are a couple of jerks. Mmmhhhh….

But once vrouwtje comes back home, I happily jump up and down and we sit on the couch to cuddle. Not for long, though. I mean, I’m holding everything until someone comes home so I really don’t wanna waste any time. Outside is calling!!! Oh, and then we always take my ball, it’s soooo much fun to play with it!

Once back inside, it’s soon time for baasje to come home. I then listen to every little sound, making sure I don’t miss anything. I already hear him before he opens the door downstairs. Then I run to the front door and bark enthusiastically, until he opens the front door and I can greet him. Vrouwtje and baasje always say, I’m “attacking” them but I’m just simply so happy to see them again. So of course I have to jump up and down, kiss them and demand their attention for a few minutes.

Weekends are much better. Then at least one of them is home most of the time and I get to go outside with baasje a lot more then during the week. The days are also so much more relaxed. Oh, and Sundays are especially great because then there are breakfast eggs – and I’m also getting one!! Mmmhhhh, so yummy!!

Home trained

The first weeks with baasje and vrouwtje I gave them a lot of work. I made by big and small business everywhere. After a while I learned only to pee on the newspapers they had put down in a corner. But I wasn’t sure where I was supposed to do my big business, so I just left it somewhere. I never hid it, though – something my owners appreciated, even if they were not too thrilled about my stick bombs.

By now I’m home trained, as they say. I learned to let baasje and vrouwtje know, when I need to go. Then I start walking rounds in the living room. If that doesn’t get their attention, I start annoying them. And if it then still takes too long, I simply fart! Believe me, THAT is enough of a hint.

It took a while for me to be home trained, though. At first, baasje took the newspaper away. I was so confused!! I didn’t know where to go, so I just went somewhere. I didn’t mean to but what was I supposed to do?

But I soon learned to hold it, because I know one of my owners goes with me as soon as they are home. Now they are very proud of me for not making a mess anymore. I’m such a proud puppy!! :D

Sometimes baasje and vrouwtje ask me, if I need to pee. Then I jump up and down in excitement and bark “Yes”. But do they go with me immediately? NO! What do they do? They ask me again!! Gee, how often do I have to bark “yes”, run to the door and be ready to go outside? Seriously, sometimes I wonder if they actually understand me… But that’s ok, at least most times they also play with me outside so it’s worth waiting.

This is me

My name is Rocco. I was born on February 13th 2008 in Belgium, just across the border from the Netherlands. My mother is a Labrador and my father a Golden Retriever.

My owners are Patrick and Bee – or “baasje” and “vrouwtje”, as I call them. Remember those two words, because I will use them whenever I speak about my owners. It’s just so much easier than remembering their names.

I’m with baasje and vrouwtje since April 25th 2008 – and I’m having a blast!! And here I wanna share all the cool, new, exciting and weird things in my life. Vrouwtje is helping me with telling everything because… well, I’m a dog – and dogs can’t type!

I used to be a very little puppy when I came to live with baasje and vrouwtje. But I grew a lot in the past months!! Now I’m a big puppy but still darn cute (as my owners always say). According to them, I’m also a lot of other things, like:

- A Chaos Dog
- Quite a character
- Weird
- Silly
- Crazy
- Out of Control
- Sweet
- A Poser
- A Pimp

Why do they call me all that (and many other things), you’re asking? Well, I really don’t know but they claim that if you get to know me by reading about me, you will soon agree with them. Seriously, I don’t think you will because I’m really very, very innocent.

This is me, 10 weeks old and taking a nap in the lap of vrouwtjes brother.

I hope you will enjoy the journeys into “Rocco’s Wonderful World”!
